Hi all,

This thread will be dedicated to concept art for Chapter 4.  I will be posting many more images here in the future, so stay tuned!

Just thought I would share some of what I've been working on.  This is a rough concept for the cover of my next chapter of Samurai Pride.   All my line art on the previous pages has been so tight and controlled that I really want to cut loose (art wise) on chapter 4.  I used Manga Studio for this one.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Jack

Stunning!  :pig2

I really like the style (Which doesn't mean I don't like the style of your other artwork) It's just as great, just different.

Great style!

I want to see how something like that would look colored!

I also bet you can kick out some stuff faster in that style...

HI Guys,
Here's another rough. Ember & Sabre Airborne on a ... pssht ... not gonna tell you.  :biggrinsmiley:   This one didn't come out as well, because for some reason I couldn't get Manga Studio to change opacity with pressure like it did on the first one.  That'll teach me to save the brush settings next time.  :scratch  As soon as I figure out what I did, I'll do just that.  :pinch

You know what... You should do a whole book in that style. Black and white with gray shades or whatever they are called. Color covers... monochrome interior.

And I repeat, I don't mean I don't like your color stuff. But I absolutely love what you have done here. I guess it touches my nostalgic side.

Great googlally moogally!  That first one is gorgeous, Mutt m' man!  I love the "sketchiness" of the piece.  It really adds to the tone of the piece.  I can't wait to see what you do with this.

I don't know much about it, but I've heard a few people mention they use it vs illustrator to digially ink their comics.

How do you like it, Jack?

Thanks guys!  Lou, Manga Studio is software for sketching/drawing/inking comics.  I have had Manga Studio EX (version 3) for over a year or so and really like the control it gives me over my lines.  I stopped using it when Illustrator CS3 came out, but I decided to give it another go.  I would say the biggest difference between MS & illustrator is MS's ability to mimic real life tools.  As my top sketch shows, it really helps give my art a spontaneity that Illustrator can't.    Also, MS has perspective guides, which makes it worth the price all by themselves.

Here's a link if you're curious:
http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/mangaex/index.html

BTW  MS Debut is a good price but it does not have the perspective guides.
